  1. Sheridan was known for his excellent horsemanship and was often seen riding his horse, Rienzi, during battles.
  2. He was a close friend of General George Armstrong Custer, who he met while serving in the Indian Wars.
  3. In 1867, Sheridan led an expedition against the Cheyenne and Sioux tribes, resulting in the defeat of the Native American forces.
  4. He was an advocate for black suffrage and was known for his support of African American soldiers who served in the Civil War.
  5. During the Great Sioux War of 1876, Sheridan played a key role in the Battle of the Little Bighorn.
  6. He was awarded the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour by the French government for his military service.
  7. Sheridan wrote a memoir, “Personal Memoirs of P.H. Sheridan, General, United States Army,” which was published in 1888.
  8. He was a popular speaker and was often invited to give speeches at events and military gatherings.
  9. In 1880, he ran for the Democratic nomination for the President of the United States, but lost to Winfield Scott Hancock.
