Braxton Bragg (number 10 on out Top 10 US Civil War Generals) was born in Warrenton, North Carolina on March 22, 1817. He died in Galveston, Texas on September 27, 1876. He was a Confederate general during the American Civil War.
Braxton Bragg was known for his tough and strict demeanor. He had a reputation for being strict with his soldiers and not allowing any nonsense. Despite his tough exterior, he was a skilled military leader and tactician. He was especially known for his expertise in artillery, and he used this knowledge to help the Confederacy in many battles.
Battle of Shiloh
One of Bragg’s most significant accomplishments was his role in the Battle of Shiloh in April 1862. He helped lead the Confederate army to victory against Union forces, and the battle was a huge victory for the Confederacy. Another interesting fact about Bragg is that he was a close friend of Confederate President Jefferson Davis. The two men served in the Mexican-American War together and became close friends. In 1863, Braxton Bragg was put in charge of Confederate forces in Tennessee and northern Georgia. He struggled in this position and was eventually replaced in the middle of the Atlanta Campaign. Despite his struggles, Bragg continued to play a role in the Confederate army and was eventually sent to Texas to help with the defense of the state.
